NoSQL (non-relational) Databases
The JUG meeting offers a great place to network with other developers, recruiters and businesses as well as learn new technologies. The location and room info are on the website, and as always we have refreshments available - thanks to our sponsor ettaingroup!
Presentation Outline
Non-relational databases are receiving a lot of attention these days as the cloud becomes an important part of many company's technology infrastructure. With companies like Digg, Facebook, Yahoo and others pushing the boundaries of scalability, relational database technologies have begun to show their limitations.
New types of datastores based on key-value pairs, JSON-documents and object graphs have begun to fill an increasingly important niche. We will look primarily at technologies covered at the recent NoSQL East conference in Atlanta. These include Voldemort, CouchDB, Riak, MongoDB, HBase and Neo4J.
This will be a 2-part presentation. We will start with coverage of the non-relational landscape discussing which problems these technologies are built to handle, categorize the underlying datastores and identify their pros/cons.
Since numerous JUG members traveled to Atlanta for the conference, the second part will be a Q&A session to discuss how these technologies can be leveraged even in companies currently using a relational stack.
