Mike and Alan are out to win the $2 million dollar Ocean Health XPRIZE with a DYI (Do-It-Yourself) kit for kids and hobbyists that work in Makerspace learning centers around the world.  The team’s first XPRIZE challange was to develop the world's first Medical Tricorder, based on the science-fiction device. They moved on to the Ocean Health XPRIZE using their experience with sensor technologies.  An alternative way to advance research and product development, XPRIZE began in the 90’s when Fortune 500 corporate sponsors challenged private teams to send a vehicle into space twice within 2 weeks.  Later challenges included advanced oil spill recovery, a 102.5 MPG energy efficient car and landing a robot on the moon.

Mike and Alan are engineers with extensive experience in DYI and experimentation. Mike wrote “Wi-Fi Toys” about DIY wireless projects and started Crash Space, a Makerspace learning center in Culver City, California.  Alan ran an ISP for over 20 years, forming Linux and Maker groups, working in laser engineering, optics and RF as well as the movie business, audio and imaging.
