Hosted By:   Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology

You are cordially invited to join us in person or via Livestream for presentations by DSPT Fellows Bob Flint, Mary Hirschfeld, and Dana Gioia on the topic of Catholic Imagination and Contemporary Culture at the 6th Annual Convocation of the DSPT College of Fellows.

The task for each Fellow is to offer an analysis of contemporary culture from the perspective of their secular vocation and to consider the ways in which his or her Catholic faith and resulting Catholic imagination offer insights into how to address the questions, concerns, and opportunities they discern in the culture from the lens of their discipline.

Bob Flint will speak from the perspective of a lawyer who has helped to apply the Church's social teaching. Bob has served in the Attorney General's Office for the State of Alaska. In his private practice, Bob has assisted archbishops of Anchorage in implementing the Church's social teaching.

Mary Hirschfeld will address the topic as an economist, theologian, and educator. Mary holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University and a PhD in Theology from the University of Notre Dame. She has chosen the work of St. Thomas Aquinas as a starting point for engaging contemporary economic theory. She teaches at Villanova University and lectures widely.

Dana Gioia will address the topic as a poet, educator, and entrepreneur. Dana is recognized as one of the nation's preeminent living poets and is the author of numerous collections and anthologies. He has served the nation as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. He teaches at the University of Southern California and lectures widely.

There will be Q&A with the presenters and the other members of the College of Fellows.  A reception will follow at 4:30pm.

If you are unable to attend in person, you can also participate in the event remotely by watching it via Livestream. RSVP only if you will attend in person.
