The first ever OpenAustralia Sydney hackfest!

Hosted By:   Open Australia, Australia's first eDemocracy website, would like to invite its friends, fans and volunteers to its first Sydney Hackfest.

What's a hackfest? I'm glad you asked! A hackfest is a time when the users and the people who write the code get together to work on a software program, in this case it's OpenAustralia!

If you're a software hacker, you can dive in and work on bugs, pick an item from the wishlist and start creating a new feature, or work on just about anything you'd like to to improve or extend OpenAustralia. Why *not* write a Facebook app that lets people perform OA searches? The sky's the limit!

If you're a fan or user of OpenAustralia and you're not technically minded, fear not! Websites don't get better without people USING them and TESTING them to give us ideas on how to improve! If you're a journalist or someone who really lovesĀ statistics and databases, help us by coming up with crazy searches that push the limits of what OpenAustralia can do!

Google Australia is kindly hosting theĀ hackfest, which kicks off at 12 noon and will go until 5pm. Please note you'll need to bring your own laptop.

Please feel free to forward this invitation to anyone you think might be interested - but note that due to the size of the room, we probably won't be able to accept more than 25 people for this event.

RSVP by Friday, 12 June please.

We look forward to working with you to make our democracy a little more open!

From the OpenAustralia team.

I would suggest project management software; that way, I would remember my own milestone of pre-visiting new Google before registering for a big-list event wink

Hi everyone,

Rego has now closed for the hackfest. If you're bringing a friend, please make sure you email their name to so we can make them a name badge and ensure their name is on the door!

Kat 06/06/09

hey the list was fixed and is now showing the right number of spots left smile

Open Australia 06/01/09

Hi everyone, We've been advised from our venue hosts, Google that we can increase the number of people attending, so if you missed out on a spot before, please try RSVPing now. Cheers! The OA team.

yeah, it says ' (There are 26 spots remaining) ', and at the same time 'The maximum number of guests has been reached and we were unable to save your RSVP.'
