Before-and-After Films: The Passion of Joan of Arc

You are cordially invited to participate in a new film series entitled Before-and-After Films, which comprises six films that transformed the art of filmmaking and pushed its spiritual frontier.
Join DSPT Fellow Ron Austin – a Hollywood producer and writer, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences member, and Writers Guild lifetime achievement award honoree – for screenings of these six significant films. He will introduce them and explain his reasons for choosing them. Ron will lead conversation following each screening for those who wish to stay.
This invitation is for the first of the films to be screened. Invitations to the remaining screenings are forthcoming. Visit the Before-and-After Films webpage to learn about all of the films in the series.
The event is free and open to all, but RSVPs are required as space is limited.
The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

The Passion of Joan of Arc (French: La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc) is a 1928 silent French film based on the actual record of the trial of Joan of Arc. The film was directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer and stars Renée Jeanne Falconetti as Joan. It is widely regarded as a landmark of cinema, especially for its production, Dreyer's direction and Falconetti's performance, which has been described as being among the finest in cinema history. The film summarizes the time that Joan of Arc was a captive of England, her trial and execution.
