Looking for a presentation on something that's awesome & JavaScript for the first meetup. Any volunteers? Fame and glory await!
Hi!
I don't know what the general knowledge off the group will be, but I could't present ExtJS, a js framework which is aimed to dynamic desktop-like apps (I often use it for administration areas). It's been the most interessting js prorgramming for me, cause you write really big apps and don't have to think to much about browser issues. Could be beginner or advanced stuff. In which language will it be?
http://www.extjs.com/deploy/de…samples.html
If the people are mostly beginners or novice maybe an presentation on standard js stuff? (closure, prototype, namespacing, ...). But I guess that is quite uninsteressting for the pros...
PS: About what will the unit testing presetation be? YUI Test? FireUnit? JsUnit? Selenium Core
Sure, you can talk about ExtJS. All the talks should be max. 15 minutes in length, and don't be afraid to show some detail. vienna.js is open to all, beginners & pros.
cool!
Should the talk be in english or german?
We want all talks in English so expats and people from the surrounding countries have a chance to participate!
Hi. Unittesting presentation will be about QUnit. greets.
cool
I'm thinking about a Javascript OOP presentation but I just thought of doing it a couple days ago and may not have enough time. Maybe someone else can contribute, perhaps provide a couple real world examples ( not just the classic var dog = new Dog(); dog.bark(); for example a Twitter feed widget). Just try not to steal my thunder. I will be looking into Mootools or Base.js for the OOP library. See ya tomorrow!
Hmmm...would you be interessted in prototyp OOP or how to "simulate" as class-based approach?
To be honest I don't think it's a perfect topic, cause nobbies and jquery-only-people will be confused and advanced people will already know that stuff.
I think for nebbies it's easier to just check out some crockford videos to learn this and for advanced people an open discussion will be much more interessting...
but that's just my humble option
You make a good point. But you are missing the large intermediate crowd (which I belong to). Don't know if I could pull something together anyway. lg, aaron
Then I would recommend you Crockfords 3 day presentation about js! Not everything Crockford does is awesome, but this series is really good for covering all the fundamentals:
The first day is an intro: http://bit.ly/3bP4u
second day is about the problems with the DOM API: http://bit.ly/zw2YL
and third about low-level js patterns: http://bit.ly/Xoqaz
Or come to our http://javascriptmasterclass.com/ in March...
I had no idea that a Javascript celeb would be present! This will be fun
