Meet Cory Doctorow with his new book "Pirate Cinema," with reading, Q&A
Hosted By: Indy Hall, Geekadelphia, Hive76
That's right.
Cory Doctorow, the co-editor of Boing Boing and author of Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, Little Brother, and For the Win, is coming to Indy Hall on October 16th to discuss his latest young adult novel, Pirate Cinema.
Curious about the new book? Of course you are. Here's the synopsis:
The story follows Trent McCauley, a brilliant sixteen-year-old who is obsessed with one thing: making movies on his computer by sampling and reassembling footage he downloads from the net. In the near-future Britain where Trent is from, this more illegal than ever; the punishment for being caught three times is that your entire household is cut off from the Internet for a year, with no appeal.
When Trent gets caught, the penalty nearly destroys his family and, shamed and tattered, he runs away to the dangerous streets of London. There, he meets a vibrant demimonde of artists and activists and gets caught up in their fast-paced culture, and ultimately learns his own power in their fight for freedom.
We are thrilled to be co-presenting this event with Geekadelphia and our good friends Hive 76.
Guests can look forward to a 30-40 minute presentation from Cory with a reading from Pirate Cinema, followed by a Q&A with the iconic geek.
He'll also be signing books, so make sure you pick up one of his many awesome titles.
Along with Cory's presentation and reading, we'll have some fun surprises in store with Indy Hall and Hive 76. The event kicks off at 7pm on Tuesday, October 16th. It is, of course, free, we just need you to RSVP over on the right.
