Join RESPONSE
for a special evening with global leader,
Rebecca Samaria Lolosoli,
matriarch of the Umoja Uaso Woman’s Village, Archer’s Post, Kenya, when she will present the 20 minute British documentary
“Where Women Rule”
about the all-female village she founded in Kenya as a sign of burgeoning feminism across Africa. As the Daily Beast wrote, “Fed up with rape, epidemic and forced marriages, Rebecca Lolosoli created a village just for women in Kenya. It is called Umoja, which means Unity in Swahili. Her work on behalf of the Samburu women has led her into the international spotlight."
For her bravery and leadership, she has received numerous awards, been invited to participate in high level international women’s conferences at the United Nations in the U.S. and Europe, and most recently at the Women of the World Summit in NYC. Rebecca has been featured in Time magazine, O magazine, and Newsweek’s 2011 edition of the 150 Women Who Rock the World.
After the film, the charismatic Rebecca will tell the story of Umoja Uaso village in Samburu, Kenya and her current project to bring clean water to over 6,000 of her neighbors. She will also take questions at this time. Her colorful, sophisticated beaded jewelry and baskets will be available to purchase and additional donations will be welcome.
The event is co-sponsored by RESPONSE and the
Umoja Uaso Women’s Fund, Inc., each a not-for-profit foundation with 501(c)(3) status.
The event is free and open to the public, with suggested donations of $25 (cash and check only at the door).
