NSW Meeting July 2010
Hosted By: SAGE-AU NSW Chapter
Abstract: This presentation, drawing on Glenn's experience, will provide practical advice for avoiding panic and surviving a security incident.
Speaker: Glenn Butcher is IT director at Atlassian, where he is responsible for overseeing information management, software build engineering, process automation, and infrastructure. Before joining Atlassian in early 2009, Glenn worked in the telecommunications industry in several technical management roles for Internode, Australia's premier-grade Internet Service Provider, as well as similar positions in other industries providing high-volume services.
Presentation 2: "Cloud-everything" - issues and strategies particularly around online apps and architectures
Abstract: Is a paradigm-shift like changing gears? Will an inflection point hurt? If we are indeed all on a journey, where are we going, and who’s leading the way?
As the IT world is driven towards “cloud-everything”, Andrew will lead a light-hearted and open discussion to review the propositions, challenge the hype, and reflect on the challenges of today’s IT organisations struggling to maintain control and business alignment in an increasingly dynamic and chaotic world.
Andrew will offer his thoughts on key issues and strategies – particularly around the delivery of online applications and architectures – and will regale you with war stories, profound insights, and tales of incredible stupidity.
Speaker: Andrew Cook is Principal Consultant and Managing
Director at Smartworx
Pty Ltd. He has spent a number of lifetimes in the Australian and
Global IT markets in a range of government, corporate, and vendor
organisations, and most recently at Smartworx – a niche IT consulting
team established in 1999 to assist organisations to address the
ever-increasing complexity, dynamics, and mission-critical nature of
today’s online business application delivery. Andrew is an innovator, a
philosopher, an evangelist, and a technically savvy thought-leader.
The meeting is held downstairs at the premises of Atlassian (map) from 7pm, however we gather from 6:30pm across the road at The Shelbourne Hotel. Members and visitors are both welcome. Presentation 1 will start at 7:10pm, followed by Presentation 2 at 7:45pm.
SAGE-AU was formed in 1993 to advance the profession of System Administration by raising awareness of the need for System Administrators, and educating in technical as well as professional issues. The NSW regional group meets on the 3rd Tuesday each month.
